Take Me Away...

I don't know what it is. Maybe it's the time of year: getting ready for the Holidays: Thanksgiving, my Birthday, Christmas, New Year's that I really get in the "Old Hollywood" spirit. The look, allure, and the beautiful people. They were elegant. Looked elegant and sounded elegant.

No matter what kind of day I've had, when I put my Frank Sinatra records on, my day instantly becomes better. The stress of the day melts away, and for some strange reason I start to crave champagne as I sing along with "I've Got You Under My Skin." I imagine Frank singing to Ava at a nightclub, her looking adoringly at him. I like this image. If there were such a thing as time travel, this is the moment I would travel back to. Most might go back to right some wrong in history, and although that thought has occurred to me, I know where I really want to go. It was a time well before my time, a time when even my mother was was only a few years old, but still it is my time, if only for a moment.

So with my records playing and my imaginary glass of champagne (because cooking dinner for your family and helping your child with their homework isn't really doable while enjoying a glass of bubbly) I'm transported (briefly) to that special place.

Summer Lovin'

'Tis moonlight, summer moonlight,
All soft and still and fair;
The solemn hour of midnight
Breathes sweet thoughts everywhere,

But most where trees are sending
Their breezy boughs on high,
Or stooping low are lending
A shelter from the sky.

And there in those wild bowers
A lovely form is laid;
Green grass and dew-steeped flowers
Wave gently round her head - Emily Bronte

A New Year

A New Year is upon us, and I'm ready for new adventures. I'm getting older (aren't we all?), and want to be sure I make the most of my life. A have a list of some of the things I want to accomplish. Of course, my professional career is uppermost, but things are looking up with my writing. I have a story that will be published next month (I'll post the link), and my novel is currently being considered for publication. So other that that, here's my short list (I kept it to Top Five):

1. Laugh more - (I always say this, but I think it needs to be said)
2. Don't sweat the small stuff (I'm pretty good about it, but then again I do have a teenager and a messy husband (see #5)
3. Travel more (Planning a trip to Belize in April, but want to travel 2-3 times a year. Why else do we work?)
4. Do something I love (I love writing, but in addition I love anything vintage, so I want to start a little biz on the side with vintage clothing, jewelry, etc)
5. Get Organized...really organized (Overall, I'm pretty organized, but it's difficult when one's married to the most disorganized guy on the planet, sorry honey. I can't even bring myself to go into the garage. Reminder: refer to #1 and #2 so as not to freak out)

As you can see, I didn't include the typical no sweets, exercise more. Admittedly, I need to eat less sweets, I know this, boy do I know this, and I already exercise everyday (so I can eat the sweets guilt-free), so I think we're good.

Happy New Year!
